Love Spells 101

Updated: Apr 30

It’s true, you can attract all the unconditional love in the world in any way possible!

The purpose of a love spell is to seek Divine assistance from Spirit for unconditional love to flow through you and your life. Love spells begin from within yourself and you can magnify the power of a spell if you feel happiness, love and joy. Starting with self-love magic will strengthen your confidence and enhance any other spell you do afterwards because when you live from your heart space you have a stronger connection to Spirit.

Many people turn to love spells to attract a lover. I consider this advanced magick because it requires a strong awareness of your divine connection to Spirit and the thoughts in your mind. I believe in divine timing and that when we are in separation from a lover (soulmate, twin flame, karmic relationship), these are times crafted by Spirit for us to focus on our own soul growth. So, when attracting a lover use your awareness to identify if you are being genuinely called to this magick or if your ego is magnifying your cravings. If you are being called to this magick, that is your higher-self telling you it’s time to take action.

If your intention for a love spell is to break ties with a past lover, then I love to recommend magick for bond breaking and letting go. These are really common spells that can be done with the support of the 5 elements in your every day life. For example, cord magick or writing what you want to let go of on a piece of paper and letting the running river take it to the ocean.

Your intention is the most important part of any spell, it directs the energy towards your goal. Be clear and choose your words with care. Avoid crafting an intention that attempts to influence another person, instead write one that asks for assistance and divine guidance from Spirit and your Higher-Self. Keep your intention within your minds eye at all times. If your mind wonders, as it can, that’s okay! Let those thoughts go and return to your intention.

Love spells can manifest in really unexpected ways. You may feel internal bliss or you could be forced to face a shadow. Trust the timing of your own magic and keep your heart open to it manifesting in any which way.

Witch tip: Use an incantation to magnify the power of your spell. Be clear and intentional with your words, only using ones you need.

Spell for Self-Love

There is no sweeter spell than a self-love spell, because all magick starts within you. Loving yourself, and having peace within, allows for a greater connection to Spirit and a deeper connection with your Higher Self. Use a spell and ask spirit to assist you in gaining more love and acceptance for yourself.

Fire magic helps us ignite a passion and forward action when it comes to manifesting our intention and directing the spelled energy. Use candle magick to strengthen your magick and stretch it over a few days.

Spell Ingredients

  • Your intention

  • Red, white or pink candle

  • Dried roses petals and rosemary

  • Pin

  • A flame

  • A quite place

Spell 1: Using candle magick to love yourself unconditionally

Do this spell on a Friday (Venus, love day).

Set your intention and call in your spirit guides, directions and elements. Light your dried rose petals and rosemary, and cleanse your energy and sacred space in the smoke. Bathe your unlit candle with the smoke of the herbs and focus on your intention to love yourself unconditionally.

On the candle, carve your intention. Light the candle and ask Spirit for divine unconditional love to flow through you. Sit in front of the candle for 2 minutes (Divine number of union) and gaze into the flame, focusing on your intention and all the things you love about yourself. Repeat this every night before bed until the candle burns down.

Place candle in a garbage can outside the house or bury it in the earth if there are no metal attachments and glass.

Spell 2: Using candle magick to let go of negative self talk and let love take its place.

Do this spell on a waning moon (for letting-go).

Set your intention and call in your spirit guides, directions and elements. Light your dried rose petals and rosemary, and cleanse your energy and sacred space in the smoke. Bathe your unlit candle with the smoke of the herbs and focus on your intention to let go of all your negative self-talk.

On the candle, carve the negative things that you say to yourself. Light the candle and ask Spirit to take these words from you and return their energy back to nature. Sit in front of the candle for 2 minutes (Divine number of union) and gaze into the flame, focusing on your intention and all the things you truly love about yourself. Repeat this every night before bed until the candle burns down.

Place candle in a garbage can outside the house or bury it in the earth if there are no metal attachments and glass.

Advanced Ritual

Cast a circle by laying rose petals around you and sealing it with your wand or athame. Call in the elemental spirits and directions. This is great to do if more than 1 person is involved in the spell and you want to harness the energy into your circle. After you’re finished the spellwork, close the circle by thanking the spirits for supporting you.

Speak a closing rite to open the circle:

By the earth that is our body

By the sea that is our blood

By the fire that is our bright spirit and

By the air that is our breath

This circle is open, but unbroken

May we meet, may we part, but may we meet again

Blessed Be
